Sharon Esprit Counsellor Nottingham

Sharon Esprit

Hi there, I’m Sharon, a BACP Accredited Counsellor, and a qualified Counsellor Supervisor, with a Master’s degree in Counselling, and over 20 years of counselling experience including over 10 years with the NHS talking Therapies and years working in mental health units, prisons, in-patient and community settings. I’m also have worked in private practise since 2020, alongside work in Higher Education as a student counsellor and sub-contracting to an NHS Talking Therapies provider. My practice is grounded in the core conditions of Person-Centred Therapy to create a calm, non-judgemental, empathic space where you, the client, is at the heart of the process. My aim is to help a person realise the therapeutic lightbulb moments that enable them to find the best ways to move forward emotionally, when they feel stuck, therefore helping them through that process without telling them what do to, as only they know what’s best for them. I specialise in issues related to trauma, and working with young people, with issues such as depression, anxiety, bereavement and loss and have personal experience in all these areas which I feel provides a deeper level of understanding. I’m also a qualified Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist and am experienced in other therapeutic approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness, so am able to tailor my care and support to persons need.

I enjoy working with all age groups, including young people and the elderly and have a particular interest in alleviating the stigma associated with mental health, and getting support for it, as I believe that counselling is for anyone who is experiencing problems that negatively affect their lives, and I aspire to strengthen each person’s confidence and encourage their personal growth.
